Elegant "Thrift Shop" Bed Renovation

So about a month ago I posted pictures of a bed that I purchased at Goodwill.  Quick reminder to everyone...I didn't have a need for a new bed!  However, I saw it, got excited, bought it and then made Mr. Handy drag it home for me.  Of course when Mr. Handy saw it he was immediately in the mode of "what in the heck are we going to do with that?".  I asked him to trust me, because I had a vision!  My vision and inspiration...or better yet "pinspiration" came directly off of Pinterest.  And if you follow me there, you will more than likely see this pin for my idea to renovate this bed...that I do not even need!

Here is the inspiration bed:

I fell in love with the clean lines, the nail heads and the linen fabric on the front!  It is just so romantic don't you think??  So I showed Mr. handy where I was going with this bed that I didn't need and he began to understand my plan.

Here is what we used to bring this bed to life:

-One Queen Sized headboard and footboard from Goodwill
-Three yards of cream/khaki colored linen fabric
-Three boxes of nail heads from Hobby Lobby
-One bag of Hobb's Heirloom Cotton Batting
-Spray Glue
-Electric Stapler & Staples
-Wooden board to cover and attach to the bed
-Dark wood stain for touch-up scratches

First we cut out the wood in the template drawn and measure from the shape of the headboard.

Once the template was cut out, we sprayed a layer of glue to create a "tacky" surface for the cotton batting to adhere to.

We layed the batting and then covered it with the fabric using staples.  We stretched the fabric tight to eliminate any wrinkles.  I ran an iron over the fabric as well to smooth out any lines.  Mr. Handy then attached the covered piece to the headboard.

And then it was time for the NAILS!!

Mr. Handy then touched up the bed from head to toe in stain.  Any scratches were converted to additional weathering to the bed and they added to the character and aging when he was finished!!

And finally...the finished product!  It is so gorgeous!  I don't have anywhere to use this, so it will go up for sale tonight.  But it was so much fun to make and I know, in my heart of hearts that this bed will be an amazing piece for a beautiful room!  Thanks to the design "pinspiration" and my sweet and talented husband Mr. Handy, my idea became a reality!!

What do you think??

Until next time!!
